Growing up in Coachella in a very religious community, there was no shortage of religious imagery, mostly Catholic, floating around on everyday objects. Virgen on a tortilla? How many you need? Jesusito on pan tostado? We got too many of those! Please take one! Last supper on a microwave plate? Come on! Gimme a challenge! A barrel cactus with a striking resemblance to the son of God? Now we’re talking! Cristo Cactus is my tribute to that childhood memory. There was always something so fascinating about hearing about these sightings and seeing devout believers lined up to pay tribute.
